Erigone sp. - Erigone dentosa - male

Erigone sp. - Erigone dentosa - Male
Redwood City, San Mateo County, California, USA
June 20, 2010
Size: 2 mm
I beat this fascinating spider from an ornamental plant near my apartment complex (immature palm?) - a very cool adult male erigoninid with spines on the edge of the carapace and numerous modification to the pedipalps, including multiple spines and a large patellar apophysis that appears to make this one of the Erigone sp. I don't have the relevant literature (Paquin and Dupierre?) to get to species, I don't think...

Erigone dentosa
ID from Rod Crawford.

Alert, alert...
> large sword-like ventral patellar apophysis
> spines on the edge of the carapace

'Ding.. ding.. ding.. ding..'

What's that red flashing light up on the wall? Hey, it's the "Erigone-Alarm"... :-)

Take a look at the literature to see what views of what you will need. There are quite a few species. I don't think that it's one of the usual holarctic species, but not really sure. If not, you'll have to figure out which literature you'll need. :-/

[Oops, if I had read more carefully, I would have seen that you'd already picked this up. Oh, well. Sorry I can't be of more help. You'll need more detail from the pedipalp, and a lateral view.]

Added -
a second lateral view, this one a little better with some palp details. At the limit of my scope setup - I need another light and some higher mag oculars, I think. :(

I'll email
Rod for his opinion too.
