Biting Orange Fly - Diachlorus ferrugatus

Size: ~1.75cm
These were quite common yesterday. They bit, but not painfully. I.e. more like a mosquito than a horse fly.

Deer fly?
Probably something in Chrysops, but family Tabanidae for certain. Love those eyes!
