ID for a another robber fly? - Stenopogon californiae - Female
Claremont, Los Angeles County, California, USA
June 19, 2010
This robber fly was photographed on Asclepias eriocarpa (Kotola or Indian Milkweed) in coastal sage scrub at the Claremont Colleges' Robert J. Bernard Biological Field Station. The photograph was taken about 10:30 am. We are working on the daunting task of documenting invertebrates at the field station, and any partial identification will be greatly appreciated.

Update: I realized looking through my photos that I had another shot of this robber fly taken before it landed on the milkweed.

Thank you!
Thanks for the ID! We now have confirmed 3 genera of robber flies at the Bernard Field Station. I wonder how many more we might find?

I would wager...
...many, many more in the years to come! :-)
