scorpion from Borrego springs-hopefully not a Bark Scorpion - Paravaejovis waeringi
Borrego Springs, Anza Borrego Desert, California, USA
May 1, 2010
Size: 1.5 inches
I have found 2 of these in my home in Borrego Springs, and I have 2 small kids. I am hoping it is not a Bark scorpion as they are not supposed to be in the area, although they are expected to be imported one day as that happened recently in Palm Springs 40 miles to the north. He is stuck on Roach Trap, so the fact that his tail is sideways may be an artifact of the sticky trap. Any help is appreciated. Thanks Ed

Nope doesn't look like one to me. However even if it were a bark, I wouldnt be esp worried about it, although the sting is potentially hazardous they dont go out of their way to use it.

Thanks, that's a bit of a relief. The nearest hospital is over 1 hour drive, so Lifeflight is used frequently in Borrego. If my 2 year old girl gets stung I'd like to know if i just use ice packs, or call the medics.
