I found this male running through some grass this afternoon. Its color is quite a bit lighter than two other males I identified as
P. distincta about this time last year, and is closer in appearance to Kevin's
P. distincta male from South Dakota. Perhaps it is pale because it recently molted?
Identified by the palp.
Compare with these males, which are the same species and caught wihin about 250 meters of this one:
[edit - since posting this I've been able to observe a male over several weeks. It was initially light-colored, like this specimen, and then gradually darkened during that time until it was like the darker specimens I've found. So, my opinion is that the lighter adult males are not color variations, but simply younger males that haven't yet darkened to the more mature coloration.]
