moth pupa -
Utetheisa ornatrix
Juno, Palm Beach County, Florida, USA
January 23, 2006
Could this pupa possibly be a bella moth? I saw at least a dozen of them at this site. The skin reminds me of a tiger moth caterpillar.

Where is the pupa?
Can you collect one and keep it till it emerges? It's hard to tell even butterfly pupae apart, and moths are even less distinctive, in my limited experience. Sometimes the last shed caterpillar skin gives a clue, but not usually enough to ID to a species. On the other hand, if you saw a lot of Bellas in the area, that's probably a good guess.
Pupae is the plural of pupa, by the way.

Bella moth
The moth emerged (eclosed?) today. My hunch was correct on Bella moth. I don't think that images are necessary of this specimen since it's just like all the other Bella moths. Thanks for the help Hannah.

Nice addition to the guide
now that we know the ID for sure. It's hard to find pupal images in either online or text references. So thanks for posting!

pupa collected
I had left the pupa where I found it, but since you asked I went back and collected it. Thanks for the spelling correction also.
