Ground Beetle, Dicaelus - Dicaelus dilatatus

Ground Beetle, Dicaelus - Dicaelus dilatatus
Upshur County, West Virginia, USA
April 27, 1990
Am I right in thinking this is genus Dicaelus?

I've looked at quite a few photos, on BugGuide and elsewhere. This seems an unusual beetle and I haven't found exact matches that include the wide pronotum, the upturned edges of the pronotum, and the large head. Comments on ID appreciated.

Moved from Dicaelus.

I would agree.
Nice explanation of basic characters, Stephen. I think you can confidently place it in that genus.
