Habronattus ophrys Adult Male - Habronattus ophrys - Male
Renton, King County, Washington, USA
June 23, 2010
Size: About 5mm
I sent Rod Crawford the link to the video I took of the jumper. The photos are screenshots from this video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pN_BMmHu5us He was found on the side of my house, in the grass where the sun was shining very bright. I had seen him about a week before then, but lost him in the grass when he jumped away. I kept looking for him, and finally nabbed the critter a few days ago! He can jump incredibly far for his size.

Rod identified him as Habronattus ophrys, a beach jumping spider. We think he hitched a ride on one of us after visiting Normandy Beach Park, so that is probably where it is actually from. I will try to get better photos soon.

I think this means a new species page? I couldn't find them here yet.

I agree with H. ophrys
An editor will need to make a page within the H. americanus group.

That green colour is beautiful, never seen a jumping spider like that before! Thanks!

Neither had I!
I'm hoping to get better photographs of him soon, ones that will do him justice!
