Web in bromeliad - Cyclosa caroli - male

Web in bromeliad - Cyclosa caroli - Male
Okeechobee County, Florida, USA
June 13, 2010
Finally found a male caroli. Web was attached to the leaves of a small bromeiad which had fallen to the ground and had become rooted. This was under the canopy of a live oak hammock. All the caroli webs I've found have been less than 2 feet off the ground. And all have been associated with live oak hammocks.

Nice! The male still looks subadult, doesn't he?

Yes, the legs appear "stubbier"
Yes, the legs appear "stubbier" than those I'd expect on an adult. Because of the placement of the web in the bromeliad and the tiny size of the spider, I wasn't able to get as good of an image of this male as I'd have liked. But I was happy about even spotting this web, considering its location, length, and likeness to just a bit of debris.
