Update?
Any word on this from Landry?

There are thee images at BOLD and they are also shown at All-Leps here at higher resolution.

Argyresthia sp.
Received Landry's reply on July 5, 2010, but it was inconclusive. Here are his exact wordings:

"Yes the Argyresthia looks like aureoargentella. The BOLD photo, which is mine, is bad, too dark and does not do justice to the golden colour of the moth. I hope to add more specimens of that common species to BOLD. It is a miner on eastern white cedar along with Argyresthia thuiella and canadensis. I once had all three species together in great abundance on my cedar hedge, but this year only thuiella was common. Beware that other similar-looking species are present, notably freyerella on common juniper, I find that the moths are not easy to distinguish with certainty."

OK
I interpret that to mean that he would tentatively ID it as aureoargentella and I think that might be how Bob Patterson would interpret it for MPG as well. Has Bob seen Dr. Landry's comment? He may no longer be subscribed to this image.

At the very least, these images appear to be more representative of aureoargentella than of freyella. I've added a page for that species and will place these images in it as tentatively ID'd based on BOLD images and Landry's comments with a note on the possible confusion with freyella. I think that would serve the interest of BugGuide users better than letting these images languish at the genus level but, if you think otherwise, please move them back and I will remove the species page.

Landry's "endorsement" is as good as it gets without genitalia or DNA support. (no rsvp, thanks)

I agree!
Thanks for creating the new page. Bob has not seen Landry's comment.

Moved from Moths.

Argyresthia aureoargentella has a single specimen at BOLD.......
....and it is very dark, perhaps black. This is an excellent photo. Send it to Landry for his opinion. (no rsvp, thanks)
