Latrodectus variolus - Northern Black Widow - Latrodectus mactans - female

Latrodectus variolus - Northern Black Widow - Latrodectus mactans - Female
Montgomery, Montgomery County, Texas, USA
June 27, 2010
Size: Body size 1/2 inch
We found her this morning under a some wood. She moved very fast, then would 'freeze' for several minutes. Scary and beautiful at the same time.
Based upon the markings on her back and the fact that the hourglass is not completely together, I have classified her as a Northern Black Widow.
