Eastern Hercules Beetle - Dynastes tityus - male

Eastern Hercules Beetle - Dynastes tityus - Male
Nags Head, Dare County, North Carolina, USA
June 4, 2004
An uninvited wedding guest, this beetle crashed (literally) the reception dance, being held outside under a pool-side flood light (not 200 yards from the Atlantic Ocean). This picture was taken on the concrete pool patio, as dancers gave it wide berth. After pictures were taken, the dazed beetle was then moved to the relative safety of some nearby bushes.
