Ovipositing queen - June 29th - Bombus impatiens - Perry County, Pennsylvania, USA
This was the first time I have been able to see how bumble bees lay eggs. It is very different from wasps/hornets. The bumble queen lays her eggs in a small wax cup, and lays multiple eggs at a time. She does not glue her eggs to the side like wasps do_ she just lets them drop into the cup. Her stinger comes out each time she lays an egg (you can see it in this photo)
