After
a closer look, this image is a great example of an expanded palp (one not being used). The hard (dark) and soft (light) areas of the palpal organ are visible. I was spending too much time on the other image and overlooked this one.
It looks like the tip (embolus) of his p/o is touching his front leg, if that helps give a better idea of what you are looking at.
