Soft-bodied Plant Beetle - Anorus piceus

Soft-bodied Plant Beetle - Anorus piceus
Webb Canyon, ~2000 ft. elevation, Los Angeles County, California, USA
June 28, 2010
Size: ~6.75 mm
I rescued this beetle from the pool and can't for the life of me decide on a good match for it in the guide. As best as I can tell, tarsal formula is 5-5-5 and there are 11 antennal segments. (If I got that wrong, please correct me!) Any help identifying to family or better would be greatly appreciated.

Surrounding habitat is chaparral and mixed oak woodland.

[The first four photos in this series were taken while the beetle was basically lifeless. I placed it in a container overnight and by the next day it was moving around and I took the final three images prior to its release.]

Nicely lit
Quite a fine image, Harsi.

Thanks, Ron!
I think one of the reasons I'm so reluctant to figure out the "new camera" is that I feel I've just started to really get the hang of how to make the old one take a nice pic.

You must become bicameral!
It's the American thing to do.

bicameral
luckily, the only connotation i hear is fish heart anatomy

I wish all my posts could elicit such a response!
There are other images sitting in my photo files... Let me know if you need to see more of anything in particular. I eagerly await your verdict.
