Isoptera, possibly Subterranean termites? - Gnathamitermes

Isoptera, possibly Subterranean termites? - Gnathamitermes
Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, San Diego County, California, USA
May 1, 2010
Size: BL~7.5-8 mm
We found a few termites under a rock near the base of a rocky slope in Sentenac Cienega. Lying horizontal right next to the rock was a dying barrel cactus maybe two feet long. We saw three different types of termites. This is the largest at 7.5-8 mm, probably an immature reproductive with wing buds.
