I am doing a survey of the insects I find there over the summer! (requested by the sanctuaries directer

I have NO idea... At first I thoughts Stilt legded fly but then I realized that it had a mantis head, and eyes, and look at the antena! Those dont look like they belong to a fly! Plus, The front legs look like they have an extra segment or something. But yet it Cant be a mantis, because of the antena and the wings, which it used to fly off, (even though it sat and sometimes wandered around on the leaf, even when I bent and touched the leaf for pictures) It MUST be mimicing something but...

Probably Dryinus crawfordi (Krombein, 1962)
Probably Dryinus crawfordi. To be 100% sure I would have to have the specimen in hand to compare to the literature.

When you compare these pictur
When you compare these pictures to the other two specimens we have on BG it makes a convincing match. Its also in the right place. As mentioned on one of the other specimens the published State records for the species includes: Massachusetts, New York, Maryland, and Wisconsin. So New Jersey fits nicely within the range.
