I found this beetle in my vehicle dead in Beloit, KS. - Phanaeus vindex

I found this beetle in my vehicle dead in Beloit, KS. - Phanaeus vindex
Beloit, Mitchell County, Kansas, USA
June 29, 2010
Size: 1/2 inch long
I have never seen a beetle like this before. It is the most colorful beetle I have ever seen as well. I don't know if it is a male or female. The horn is the most interesting part. My Dad says it reminds him of a Rhino. If it is a new type of beetle discovered, I would like to have it called a Rhino Beetle.

I'm surprised.
I'm surprised to get a response this late (or early). I'm also glad to know what kind of bug this is. Thanks for the quick response.

Phanaeus is a Scarab and a Dung Beetle
Dynastinae, Rhinoceros beetles, are also Scarabs, but this is not one of them

I know
he wanted to call it a "Rhino Beetle" due to the horn, so I just showed him what they look like.

Funny.
Some of us entomologists have been looking for these for years, and here a magnificent specimen just blunders into some "average Joe." LOL!

Average Joe
I have one at work in my office. It walked up in to my warehouse last week & my name happens to be Joe (by the way)
