Is that a leaf they're on? If so, is it the underside? What in your opinion were they up to? How did you find them?

Also, many of us site users are not up on all the orders of insects, focused as we are on our groups of special interest. So what order are these critters? Well, for this one, I've just looked it up. They're whiteflies, order Homoptera.

Finally, most measurements here are metric, so I grabbed my inch/millimeter ruler, squared off across it at the one-eighth mark to determine that these things are in the neighborhood of 3mm. In the field I try to carry a small stainless millimeter ruler so I can record measurements on at least one image. It's a good practice for anyone interested in adding to the database here on bugguide to adopt.

I can't remember if it was the top of a leaf or the bottom of one higher up. I just noticed these white specks and realized they were insects. As I tried to get some shots, most flew off, but I just got some which didn't thought the leaf was unsteady, and I didn't get a sharp shot.
