Owlfly larvae - Ascaloptynx appendiculata

Owlfly larvae - Ascaloptynx appendiculata
Auburn, Lee County, Alabama, USA
October 13, 2009
Size: 7/10"
This was found in the Tuskegee National Forrest in southern Lee county, Alabama. I found the larvae in under a large rock in an old campsite I found while hiking. The general area was a dirt lot(mainly Alabama clay and sandstone), but the woods in the area are a mixture of southern long-leaf pines, oaks and a few maples. There are several creeks and ponds in the area. There is a large diversity in plant and animal like.
