Cross Plains - Ice Age Trail, Dane County, Wisconsin, USA
July 2, 2010
Size: ~5mm
Finally managed to get some photos of this kind of Dryinid wasp which I only managed to get as an "artistic" image last year. The peculiar way it is holding the pair of front legs makes it look like it has seven legs in this photo.

A female Dryinus. I'll run through my keys when I get back to the office next week. The females walk on their "elbows" because of the modified tarsi and claws. Great pictures!

Dryinus crawfordi (Krombein, 1962)
Again, based on the black head and pronotum, with the antennal tips pale, this appears to be Dryinus crawfordi. It was originally only known from Maryland and New York, but in the past few years was recorded from Massachusetts and Wisconsin. So I suspect it is generally distributed in the Northeastern US.
