Giant Swallowtail - Papilio cresphontes - male

Giant Swallowtail - Papilio cresphontes - Male
Allamuchy Mountain State Park, adjacent to Saxton Falls., Warren County, New Jersey, USA
May 14, 2010
One individual was observed nectaring. This species appears to be re-establishing itself locally in New Jersey. This individual is a bit of a puzzle however as no Prickley Ash is known to occur nearby.

Larval food plants in SoCal include, rue, citrus.
Also, I believe some butterflies adapt to new food plants, and I've seen blues ovipositing on plants other than what would be the typical hosts. (Of course, the butterflies could be disastrously wrong.)
