Moved from Eucanthus.

I agree this is E. greeni, based on 1) two crescent-shaped bands of punctures extending from lateral edge to midline and punctures (E. lazarus has one) and 2), midline band of puctures stop at pronotal swellings (E. impressus extends to, or nearly to, apical margin).

Thanks!
to Eric R. Eaton, Blaine Mathison and V Belov for the ID!

cool; thanks guys
if you get another one, Lonny, pls take and post pix of an 'unprocessed' specimen -- your series is all we've got thus far of this beetle.

circumstancial evidence points to E. greeni... would be nice
i'll ask Dr Paulsen

Moved from ID Request.

Geotrupidae?
Fairly certain this is something in that family. Neat find!

I think I'll go with your guess.
Seems to be a closer guess.
Hard to tell which one though, to my eyes they look all but the same.
