Berwyn, Custer County, Nebraska, USA

A fairly small swallowtail found hilltopping in a mixed grass prairie pasture. Closet thing I can come up with is Old World Swallowtail (Pipilo machaon), but would like to confirm it with an expert.

I think you are correct.
Both yellow and black forms of ssp.
dodi
(leaning heavily toward ssp.
bairdii
) occur in roughly the western half of Nebraska, but never seem to be abundant. I used to catch mostly black ones in Keith & Duel Counties as a kid, but probably missed seeing most of them because look-alike Black Swallowtails are so much more common. Never saw a yellow one there.
Anyway, this is almost certainly a yellow form Old World Swallowtail (in the broad sense), even though it looks a lot like an Anise Swallowtail too (which shouldn't be there). Do you have any photos that show it from other angles, especially some showing the underside? That would eliminate any lingering doubts.

Another photo
Thanks for the informative reply. I didn't have any photos of the underside from when I originally found it, but I did re-find an individual in the same exact location this afternoon and got a shot of the underside. While I'm not absolutely sure this is the same individual, I'm confident that it's the same species. The tailspot is visible in this photo, and it looks very Old World-like to me.
Thanks for your help.
