Microchrysa sp. with yellow-brownish antennae - Microchrysa flaviventris - female

Microchrysa sp. with yellow-brownish antennae - Microchrysa flaviventris - Female
Houston, Harris County, Texas, USA
July 7, 2010
Is this M. flavicornis? It seems to fit, because flavicornis apparently translates as "yellow horn," and the images ID'd as polita seem to have darker antennae than this. Came to UV light.

From the pic it is hard to te
From the pic it is hard to tell if it is flaviventris or flavicornis... a better pic of the wing would make it clear...

Abdomen
Wouldn't flaviventris have a yellow abdomen, versus the dark abdomen on this specimen? That's what the info page indicates.
Thanks for the wing tip :)

only the male in flaviventris
only the male in flaviventris is yellow the female is green metallic. The wing cell d is half open in flaviventris while closed in flavicoris. You can see this character very well on the left wing in the pic of the male you photographed on UV light, the cell is half open - compared with this pic http://bugguide.net/node/view/182988/bgimage

I understand now
Thanks, Martin.
