Cylindera lunalonga (Schaupp) - Parvindela lunalonga - female

Cylindera lunalonga (Schaupp) - Parvindela lunalonga - Female
Farmersville, site of the San Joaquin Roller Mill, Tulare County, California, USA
May 22, 1983
Size: 12.5 mm
This specimen was collected from the type locality for the species. Shortly after the specimens were collected the site became a nature preserve and the leaking cattle trough that supported the population was fixed and the area dried up. They also removed the cattle that kept the non-native grasses and weeds under control, so the site became very overgrown. It hasn't been seen there since.

Sad anecdote
That's a clear and specific example illustrating how people, through ignorance, can do damage while intending to protect. And unfortunately, ignorance is often in great supply and hard to avoid.

Too bad, that's an interesting tiger beetle...could have been a (perhaps the?) highlight of the nature preserve!
