What kind of bee is this? - Eristalis arbustorum
Jackson County, Iowa, USA
July 8, 2010
Size: about 1.5 cm long
There are tons of these bees all over my oregano, dill, and cilantro plants. I haven't been able to find what specific type of bee they are. They have these yellow half diamond shaped markings on the side. Also, they didn't mind me getting close at all. Just went about their work. Is this a type of honey bee?
