my son found this on a beach this bugs head would turn to follow you when you look around it.
any ideas?

Moved from ID Request.

Tenthredinidae, Tenthredininae
This is a Rhogogaster sp. Two species with similar color occcur in this area and can't identify them from photos.

Challenging angle...
Maybe a Sawfly?

Just a guess to consider while you wait for other opinions.

Green Sawfly (Rhogogaster viridis)
thanks ken
you made it look so easy to find,my son has developed a strong interest in finding insects so thanks again for the help

My pleasure.
Let's just call it Rhogogaster, though. According to the Guide, there are four species in the genus, and we've got representatives of only one. Yours could be one of the other three. :)

Ken's right; Rhogogaster seems to be it
