prairie beetle - Lytta

prairie beetle - Lytta
Dinsmore, Saskatchewan, Canada
July 8, 2010
Size: appox 4-5cm long
We found this beetle in the prairie and it seemed to be favoring Wild Vetch (Vicia americana). It moved quite quickly so photos were difficult, but it crawled everywhere and only took off to fly for short distances. There were several of these beetles in the same area. I have a few more photos with clearer shots of the legs (but they are terrible photos of the insect otherwise) so please comment if you would like to see them to help with ID. Thanks!

Just a guess...
Maybe something in/near Lytta?

I'm sure the experts will turn up soon enough to tell you what it really is. :)
