ants - Tapinoma sessile

ants - Tapinoma sessile
Fort Meade, Anne Arundel County, Maryland, USA
July 10, 2010
Size: small
These guys are everywhere, inside, outside, everywhere. Massive trails of them. My apt management did an "occasional invader treatment" on June 29th. Every time they do that the ants go away for 1-3 weeks and then come back much worse. I asked once what the 'treatment' was and was told "Phantom". I don't know if they used that this time.

Anyway, the ants like to eat sugary things. Once they were attracted to some dog food my dog somehow missed, but in general leave it alone. Mostly they are dark in color, but there are a few of the lighter ones too. Outside they seem to like dryish places, like under my patio, or in a hanging plant that is self watering. I have even seen them in the brick columns that hold up my carport. Outside I have also seen them on my roses with the aphids.
