Facinating looking insect clusters! Common barklice - Cerastipsocus venosus

Facinating looking insect clusters! Common barklice - Cerastipsocus venosus
Fairfield, Jefferson County, Iowa, USA
July 10, 2010
Size: ranged .5 -1 cm
Fellow gardener, S. Starr called me to ID insect clusters on her magnolia tree. Tree was in shady front lawn with hostas planted underneath. When I went to collect a few for look under the microscope, they scattered, but quickly came back together. Learned on bugguide that this is common. Had never seen this insect before.
