Adult Female - Pardosa groenlandica - female

Adult Female - Pardosa groenlandica - Female
Whitecourt, Alberta, Canada
July 11, 2010
Size: BL = 9 mm
Collected from a gravel pit a few kilometers north of Whitecourt.

The variety in general appearance among spiders of the same species is amazing. I would never have guessed from looking at this spider, for example, that it is the same species as a lighter-colored, mottled specimen I collected only last month. Based on the epigynes, though, both appear to be P. groenlandica:

Is the variation/difference less when you compare the specimens under alcohol/water?

It has only been a few weeks since the first one was preserved, but the difference between them is a little less now.
