Proctacanthus - Proctacanthus hinei - male

Proctacanthus - Proctacanthus hinei - Male
Wakonda State Park, Lewis County, Missouri, USA
July 9, 2010
I have tentatively identified this as Proctacanthus hinei. Can someone please confirm or correct this? I waffled a bit with P. rufus. This is a male, right?

Wakonda State Park is in northeast Missouri, approximately 3 miles from the Mississippi River. There are 2 large lakes and several small lakes in the park. The habitat is sand prairie.

Park photos and other insects seen on 9 July can be seen at Wakonda State Park.

Thanks!

Yes
Male P. hinei. Very similar to P. rufus but rufus prefers clear water. They both can occur in the same sand habitats in fairly pristine environments.
