Not a derm*estid larva! - Polyxenus lagurus
Hollis, Hillsborough County, New Hampshire, USA
February 10, 2006
Size: 2 mm approx.
I noticed a bunch of fuzz in the bottom of the clear plastic deli container, and also the absence of one of the two tail tufts this little guy had at the outset. Eventually I got the idea that he lost them on purpose. They might be defensive hairs that irritate a would-be predator, and he figured he was under attack.
