The Gold Bug - Calligrapha philadelphica

The Gold Bug - Calligrapha philadelphica
Warrensburg, Warren County, New York, USA
July 12, 2010
Size: cm
I thought this was Calligrapha multipunctata, but the head and the scale right behind it (correct name escapes me at the moment) are solid black, and in all photos I've seen of C.m. these are black and yellow. Could this just be a local variation, or an entirely different insect?

S.M. Clark: "looks like Calligrapha philadelphica (Linnaeus)"
Moved from Calligrapha.

host plant info may be needed to tell
