Fly with Black & White Banded Legs - Xylota East Greenwich, Kent County, Rhode Island, USA July 14, 2010 Size: 8-10mm
These flies were all over the leaves of Deinanthe bifida in my garden. It's blooming right now and the flies had pollen on them but I never saw them on the flowers.
They kept roving back & forth across the leaves, pivoting from the rear so that it looked like only the front moved. Then they would stop, and after a few seconds start the
routine again. It started to pour before I got more pictures.
