wasp - Bicyrtes quadrifasciatus

wasp - Bicyrtes quadrifasciatus
Cross Plains, Dane County, Wisconsin, USA
July 14, 2010
A sandbox in a nearby park is now a haven for these wasps. Is this a Bicyrtes? The sand is pockmarked with numerous holes made by these wasps (and some other kinds of wasps, also). This wasp is hauling some unknown insect into one of the holes.
