Eric, thanks again. This one looks like it could be Ceropales maculata, but I'll wait for confirmation before moving it to the species page.

 
It is.
I've seen enough of this species to be confident enough to call it C. maculata from these nice photos.

Is this male I found the next day the same species? He has less yellow on the abdomen, and was a bit smaller.

 
Yes.
Males are almost always smaller than females. The amount of yellow is extremely variable.
