Help...trying to use the guide...is this Melissodes? - Halictus ligatus - Female
Pacheco Slough, Martinez, Contra Costa County, California, USA
June 20, 2010
Small bee with lots of pollen...there are a real variety of these small bees around Contra Costa County. I am taking a much closer look and trying to identify to the Genus. Can some one confirm this as Melissodes and take it further, if it's something else please put me in the right direction.

Why was this posted to the subgenus Eumelissodes guide page?!

Michael, posting to ID Request would have been best for this.
The experts have their preferences as to where they like to review posts. As an aid a to knowing where yours should go, please check out this helpful article: http://bugguide.net/node/view/298899

Ron,

I posted this to an ID request and asked if it was possibly Melissodes....I don't even know how to move these request around....You were the first to respond to it so I thought you gave me the Identification of Eumelissodes. If you didn't, I have no idea who posted it or who moved it.

Well, then you did everything right.
I made no attempt to ID the bee, but thought it was strangely placed. Since I'm not an editor, I can't move other people's posts. In theory, there should be a "moved" comment identifying who moved your post and from where. In practice, it doesn't always happen.

Just shake this one off, Michael. This is a great site, and you'll learn the ropes fast. Sorry this didn't work out as pleasantly as it might have, but you did get your ID and a bit of seasoning. (Yeah, I know. You could have done without the latter.)

Bee expert Dr. John Ascher spoils us.
He's quick with expert IDs so - on the downside - I've made little progress in self-studying the names. You're wise to stop at genus at any rate.
