Dusky Clubtail - Phanogomphus spicatus - male

Dusky Clubtail - Phanogomphus spicatus - Male
Coal Branch Lake, eastern shore, Kent County, New Brunswick, Canada
June 23, 2010
This adult male is still not as "dusky" as he will get. Photographed from a well-known location which has only produced this species and Gomphus borealis over many years of sampling. The thoracic markings clearly separate it from the latter species, but using just a photo, it is difficult at best to separate it from other similar species in the genus.
