The frons looks
tumid but it is hard to be sure without having an absolute profile of the front of the head. In tesselatus the profile of the front of the head is flat, in tumifrons it is rounded.

Goes tumifrons?
A profile shot of the head has been posted.

G. tumifrons is what I had or
G. tumifrons is what I had originally keyed it to but without something to compare it with left me uneasy with the ID, especially since G. tumifrons is uncommon. It was lacking the characteristics in Lingafelter's key (white pubescence along suture and less rounded eye margins) which would designate it as G. tesselatus. It also lacked the alternating white/yellowish pubescence on the elytra when viewed from behind that some BugGuide users have mentioned. I can post an absolute profile shot of the head in a day or so since it will help with the ID. Thanks for the help!

Waffle waffle
I can't decide and flipping a coin is unscientific. I'd like to see Ted or Ian to chime in.

I'll go with tumifrons...
...especially considering the agreement of other (if less certain) characters.

I'll agree with Ted on this.
I'll agree with Ted on this. I don't have much experience with the genus though.
