Buprestis lyrata

Buprestis lyrata
Blue Ridge Reservoir, Mogollon Plateau, Coconino County, Arizona, USA
July 17, 2010
Bug was found on the side of the stump of a freshly fallen large, dead Ponderosa pine tree. I heard the tree fall (crash) the day before not too far from where we were kayaking on the reservoir. We hiked up a ridge and found Pine pitch was oozing off the large stump where the tree separated from the stump and peeled away. The stump was about 6 ft. tall at the break point. The bug was found on top of a shreaded piece of bark about 3/4 of the way up the stump and was not moving, but alive and not injured. We did not disturb it. I took the photo with a point/shoot on macro mode. I estimated the bug to be about one inch long.

Moved from Beetles. You need to TAG your image, find the page in the guide with B. lyrata. Click on IMAGES and then on Move tagged image. That's what we did and now, if you look above your image, you will see it is on the B. lyrata page.

Thanks for describing the "Move" procedure. Apparently we had doubled up on displaying the photo on the B.lyrata page so I deleted the duplicate. Hope to find, photo and tag more bugs I find of interest in AZ.
