Arrow Spiketail - July 01, 2004 - Cordulegaster obliqua - Female
Near Campbellville, Halton, Ontario, Canada
July 1, 2004
This was my first time seeing this species and was almost missed sighting. (truly glad it wasn’t missed!) Taken on a private landowners property as he gave us a tour (we were to do field work on his property). She landed just as we were turning to leave the field, I hesitated, wavered then decided to snap a few pictures and just catch up to the gang in a bit. I had no clue I was getting a shot off a very rare species as this was my first year identifying odes. I had the camera in rapid fire and when I looked at the photos later I laughed as you could see the bug she was eating slowly disappear with each shot. As I was photographing I could clearly hear her crunch crunch crunch the bug...gave me the shivers.

For a number of years this species was almost thought extirpated from Ontario due to a lack of any sightings. But it has now been seen in Halton Region for 3 years in a row now, one specimen photographed each year (thanks to the project I was working on and some luck really).
