Small Ground Beetle - Coptodera aerata

Small Ground Beetle - Coptodera aerata
Alexandria, Fairfax County, Virginia, USA
July 21, 2010
Size: <1cm
This is the smallest beetle of this form that I've seen. It was high up on my bricks the other night, attracted to my patio lights. Nice iridescent green in the blackness.

ha! got it! not even a Lebia, stupid me...
Moved from viridis group.

Cool,
thank you! It sure looks a lot like Lebia to me. I'm impressed. :)

I'm impressed, too ))))))
the problem is, i'm not exactly good at recognizing bugs at odd angles; i'm sure i'd have had it figured out immediately from the 'classical' upright position like here:

Probably!
Judging from my angle, I was standing on a three-step stool and reaching up to get these photos. Next time I'll have to knock it into a cup and bring it inside!

still not sure what it is...
Moved from subgenus Lebia.

might be a nice one; stay tuned
Moved from Ground Beetles.

Cool
Thanks, I'm curious to find out. I added a posterior shot, too.

Lebia?
Pretty sure this is a species of Lebia, maybe even L. viridis. Great images as usual :-)

Thanks Eric!
=)
