inflating robber fly? - Rhamphomyia longicauda - female

inflating robber fly? - Rhamphomyia longicauda - Female
jackson, jackson County, Michigan, USA
June 24, 2010
Size: 12mm long
I wish to know if this orange eyed inflating fly is recognized by anyone. I've only seen it the second week of June after sunset. The captured ones deflate within a few minutes. I first noticed them hovering by the dozens in an almost rock steady group and the group drifting slowly as if with the shadows of the setting sun. I have more pictures of the groups and them flying with mosquitoes.

Not an expert
but I would think Dance fly vs. robber. Only you and the editors can see your full-size images so it would probably be bettre to crop this to "just the bug" and submit as 2 images. You can click "edit" to replace this one and "add image" to add the second.

thank you, I see what you mean, they look too small if your not seeing the full size and the full size looks much better, huh.
but the originals weren't too good.
