Offhand...
How far can they travel. There are certainly birch about. We have grey (
Betula populifolia
) & yellow (
B. alleghaniensis
), but the closest is probably 1/2 a mile away. Why was it over here in my oak/pine mix?

Sorry, that was a misleading title.
"under oaks (of course)"...I didn't mean the host, but the location. My yard is almost entirely oaks, and it started feeling redundant to me to mention it when posting. A poor choice of words...I'll change that.
