Size: 2.5-3mm
Andricus kingii (wasp) was inside this small gall on a Quercus lobata leaf I found lying on the ground.

ID of wasp confirmed by Kathy Schick.

Nice set of pictures...
...and instructive! I have seen the shape of the middle photo before in pictures connected with gall wasps, but it can be deceptive when you see what they appear like from above, as in the third photo!

Thanks -- I removed the link, which seems to have been broken for a while and google searches for it come up empty.

Glad you like the photos -- this particular wasp and gall were the ones that got me hooked on gall wasps and their galls.
