Giant ant? - Ammopelmatus

Giant ant? - Ammopelmatus
Huntington Beach, Orange County, California, USA
June 3, 2006
Size: About 2 inches
For the past several years this critter has been terrorizing my wife by its size and appearance. I have tried to figure out what it is, but have had no luck. We have had about 5 around our house over the last several years.

Harmless cricket
Jerusalem Cricket (Stenopelmatus)

Just a darling, and neat looking cricket. Read somewhere that there are over 50 species, many unidentified, but this is a good starting place till some experts weigh in.
Nothing to be alarmed about.

beautiful
Beautiful animal, I found this remark on the info page to be funny: "Said to be able to deliver a strong bite, but also to make a good pet."
