Sweat Bee - Augochloropsis metallica - female

Sweat Bee - Augochloropsis metallica - Female
Dallas/Ft Worth, Tarrant County, Texas, USA
July 26, 2010
I have seen very few of these. This is smaller than most bees, but
looks and acts very much like a bee, with the exception of the
outstanding iridescent colors. I would sure like to know what species
this is.

Since posting, I have found some on this site:

Arthropods (Arthropoda) » Insects (Insecta) » Ants, Bees, Wasps and Sawflies (Hymenoptera) » Aculeata - Bees, Ants, and Stinging Wasps » Anthophila (Apoidea) - Bees » Sweat Bees (Halictidae) » Halictinae » Augochlorini » Augochloropsis » Augochloropsis metallica) And
even the gender is identified. How is gender determined in this species?

Moved from ID Request.

Augochloropsis metallica

note white pollen-transporting hairs (scopae) on hind legs

It is a bee...
One of the Sweat Bees in the family Halictidae, I believe. I won't attempt to take it further than that. One of the experts should be able to give you a more definitive ID--or tell you that I'm completely off base. :)
