My first contribution to BugGuide! A Leaf Weevil (Polydrusus impressifrons)on a yellow rose. Unfortunately a common grackle flew down and ate this guy as I was making adjustments. He gave his life for this pic.

Male/female?

no Polydrusus records in Fla. or anywhere in the se. US
another thing is, it's hard to believe this beetle could be anywhere near an inch -- must be at best half the indicated size, but more likely close to a third (ca. 8 mm) -- still, Polydrusus are even smaller.

He was at least as long as my thumbnail. Definitely no less than 1/2".
